惲壽平作山茶臘梅圖，乃沒骨花卉。其花鳥享譽清初，他才華橫溢，以詩人氣質施用於藝術。天然神趣從清淡出，用色力追清麗，宛如出水之芙蓉也。圖中詩跋：寒香還與歲寒期，夜起移燈看雪時。不待春風到梅柳，山茶先發近窗枝。逸人好辭也！
寒香馥蕊山茶鮮
臘月梅花妍芳枝
雪萼粉黛虯枝傲
生機活韻氣骨奇
