俄國詩人普希金，被譽為「俄羅斯文學之父」。他結識了「莫斯科第一美人」娜塔麗亞之後，為她的驚人之美所傾倒。他們結婚了。但這位美人只會跳舞，又愛打扮，只會在上流社會炫耀自己的容貌。她不愛丈夫的事業，不理解丈夫的生活和心靈，她害得普希金失去了寶貴的創作時間，而且背上了一身債。
後來，她又不拒絕一個貴族軍官的公開追求，使普希金蒙受羞辱。
普希金忍無可忍，與那位軍官決鬥，飲彈身亡。@*
