利比亞城市Zuwara的官員和居民說，有兩艘載有500人的移民船在附近海域翻沉，擔心會有數百人喪生。其中一艘船周四上午發出求救信號，船上載有50人。另一艘船隨後翻沉，船上載有多達400人。利比亞海岸警衛隊正在對這艘船進行搶救，但是認為船上的大多數人已經喪生。當地一位居民對BBC說，已經向位於的黎波里西面的一家醫院運送了至少100具屍體。這位居民還說，遇難者來自敘利亞人，孟加拉國人以及來自非洲撒哈拉南部國家。但是這些信息無法得到獨立方面的證實。
