美國司法部決定，不再就電話竊聽醜聞追究媒體大亨默多克的新聞集團。2011年7月，新聞集團旗下《世界新聞報》曝出竊聽醜聞，隨後該報宣佈停辦。新聞集團總部設在紐約，擁有數家美國重要媒體，其中包括福克斯新聞、《華爾街時報》、《紐約郵報》和哈伯-科林斯出版商。據指稱，新聞集團記者用錢賄賂英國警察，美國官員一直在調查這是否觸犯了美國反腐敗法。美國聯邦調查局FBI也在調查新聞集團記者竊聽美國911攻擊事件受害人電話的指稱。BBC在紐約的記者布賴恩特說，聯邦調查局排查了新聞集團伺服器上的數千份電子郵件，尋找觸犯美國法律的證據。美國司法部星期一表示，不打算對新聞集團提出起訴，並結束其調查。但是，司法部的聲明說，如果新聞集團竊聽醜聞出現新線索，他們保留重新調查的權利。新聞集團在聲明中對美國司法部的決定表示歡迎。但是911攻擊事件受害者家屬的代表律師說，對美國司法部結束調查感到極其失望。（編譯：董樂/責編：李莉）
