美西拉斯維加斯附近高速公路旁豎起提醒公眾熱浪「極端危險」的警告牌。

美國西部已有數十人因連日持續超級熱浪所造成的脫水、虛脫而被迫接受醫療救治。
據信，賭城拉斯維加斯至少一名男子因與暑熱有關的病症死亡。
美國國家氣象局向多個地區發佈持續到周一早晨的高溫警報，其中包括拉斯維加斯。
加利福尼亞、內華達、亞歷桑那等州已經建立了一些臨時「冷氣中心」，以供公眾逃避熱浪； 各地衛生部門均警告稱，熱浪已經開始危及生命安全。
周末有些地方的氣溫達到了攝氏54度（華氏 130度），迫近歷史紀錄。
1913年7月10日，死穀出現「有可靠記錄以來地球上最高氣溫」--攝氏57度。
包括沙漠旅遊城市棕櫚泉的加州多地，周末氣溫均達或超過了歷史記錄。
氣象官員說，極端天氣是由當地上空大氣高壓系統滯留引起的。
